Baldur's Gate 3 News

In the latest Baldur’s Gate 3 News, updates on romance and companions were forthcoming alongside several answers from the ongoing Larian Studios community Q&A. In terms of playing the game with friends via different platforms, it will be possible, however all players must have the same patch number in order for it to work.

Concerning Early Access, there will be minor discrepancies in terms of what version will be available on each platform, depending how quickly issues can be fixed, which means a period of waiting might be necessary. Concerning a potential BG3 collector’s edition, at the moment there are several cool ideas being considered but no definitive plans.

Some players noticed differences in the publicly available gameplay in terms of how units measured distance, some had meters, others used feet. There will be an option to toggle between imperial and metric units. At the start of the adventure, recruited companions will be at your camp when not in an adventuring party, so they can be swapped in and out as you wish.

However, after the first act, you will need to commit to a party. Overall, the camp will be important in shaping your experience of the game. Some NPCs will join the camp temporarily, while others will be around on a more permanent basis. The camp will have many interesting services and narrative functions.

A common question which arises, is whether you can play without knowing anything about the franchise. The answer is definitely yes, this is a new story, and a new adventure with new characters. In terms of creating your character, you will determine stats by point buying.

However, Larian are still looking into rolling stats as an option. During the community update, Lae’zel mentions Vlaakith. She is the Lich Queen and the ruler of the Githyanki race. It was revealed that Gale needs to consume magical artifacts in order to survive.

Gale is a wizard prodigy whose love for a Goddess made him attempt a dread feat no mortal should. Blighted by the forbidden magic of ancient Netheril, Gale strives to undo the corruption that is overtaking him and win back his Goddess’ favour before he becomes a destroyer of worlds.

Previously it was revealed he has a Netherese Destruction Orb that beats in his chest, which can effectively destroy an entire city. In terms of romances, it was revealed that the members of your party will be watching your actions closely, including your interactions with other party members.

They will form their judgments upon you based on that information. Most surprisingly Larian Studios showed a story board for their romance scenes, and if this is an indication of the content which will be in the game, this is going to be an adventure never experienced before in Faerun.

I don’t recall playing another RPG with these sorts of options so to speak. Unsurprisingly this will be rated as a mature game. Originally early access was to be available for September 30th, but Larian have chosen to delay it by one week to October 6th.

This is mainly due to stability issues, and translations taking longer than expected. Apparently Larian have a World Tester, which is basically an AI super-gamer that is stress testing all aspects of the game. This will hopefully limit the number of potential crashes when EA finally goes live.
