90 Second Nerd Board Game Review: Philosophia Floating World.

90 Second Nerd Hey I'm Dallas with 90 Second Nerd. Today I'm taking a look at Philosophia: Floating World.

My 90 seconds start now. Philosophia: Floating World is the sequel to Philosophia: Dare to be Wise. It's a sandbox deck building game for one to six players. Now I would put Philosophia: Floating World and the original game Dare to be Wise in the board gaming connoisseurs category. They have a bit of heft to them. They have quality components and they take a decent chunk of time to play. In Floating World, players are traveling across Japan collecting art, building temples and pagodas, and fighting off monsters. But where this game is terribly unique and clever, is in the building of your deck and the management of your hand. You see, while you're purchasing cards to add to your deck and improve your deck throughout the game, it's actually up to your opponent each round which cards will be available for you to play. This was easily my favorite aspect of the game because not only did it determine how I built my deck, but it also meant I had to kind of pay attention to what my opponent was putting into their deck. Due to the sandbox nature of this game what you're doing on any given turn may differ greatly from what your opponent is doing. Like any well-executed sandbox game, the experience of playing is sometimes more important than actually winning. The artwork is deeply thematic and wonderful - borrowing classic Japanese art and styles. Now take all that and you already have a complete package, but wait there's more. As with the original Philosophia: Dare to be Wise, you might actually learn something while you play Floating World. It's a game that you can really just spend time with even when you're not playing it, to just really enjoy the fullness of what went into it.
