Asus RT-AX82U Review - AX5400 Wi-Fi 6 AX Gaming Router with Excellent Range, Speed & RGB Lighting!.

4 X 4 wireless connection with 160 MHz channels. Alright, let’s have a closer look… Installation is very simple. Just follow the on-screen instruction will do. Everything is the same as other Asus wireless router setup. In short, setup your ISP, username, SSID and so on. You are getting the same easy to navigate ASUSWRT GUI. Be sure to take your time to play with the Aura RGB first. You can change the LED effects with the hardware button on the router too. Configure AiProtection with Trend Micro and Parental Controls next. And do enable Adaptive QoS for smoother network for prioritized devices. Gear Accelerator is there for gamers like you and me. Open NAT with port forwarding to speed up gaming networks. Of course, all the USB applications like AiDisk, UPnP, iTunes, FTP, Samba, network printer, 4G modem, Apple Time Machine, Download Master for BT torrent files are there too. Lastly, AiCloud 2.0 for remote file access. There are advanced settings for advanced users. Yes, RT-AX82U supports VLAN. Just select your ISP profile will do. Amazon Alexa is supported as well. It also has VPN server and client built-in. Of course, firewall is there for you and me too. And a lot of operation modes can be chosen. In short, it’s a powerful router with a lot of features. Outstanding wireless range! Easily cover whole double storey semi-D house even on 5 GHz band with router located at middle 1st floor. Other budget routers can’t even get 5 GHz signal at end of the kitchen. As for 5 GHz throughput performance test, smartphone with 2x2 WiFi 5 was being used. You can get almost 600 Mbps when near to router. And at least 300 Mbps for all the area on the 1st floor. For ground floor, speed is decent as well. Much better when compared to UniFi bundled router. As for LAN, it performs almost perfect at 930 Mbps. Fast for sure. As for WiFi 6 tests, Asus PCE-AX58BT is being used. With AX 160 MHz, it can go over 800 Mbps from time to time.

AC 160 MHz is not far behind. Performing very well too. How about AX 80 MHz? Getting around 600 Mbps here. As for AC 80 MHz, it is better than AX. Surprising result… Alright, let’s check out AiMesh wireless backhaul performance. RT-AX88U is the main router and RT-AX82U as the node that connected to a PC through LAN.

Above 800 Mbps for download. Upload is a bit slower. At end of the kitchen, it can almost get 500 Mbps for download. That’s great! Upload is slower as you can see. In short, AiMesh is the best way to get whole-house coverage with ultra-fast connection. RT-AX82U USB 3.2 Gen 1 performance is decent.

84 MB/s for reading.

And 57 MB/s for writing. More than enough for multiple people to stream 4K video directly from USB hard drive smoothly. Don’t forget the useful Download Master that takes over your PC for file downloading. Save more electric bill with it.

1.5 GHz tri-core processor is powerful. Rest assures it can serve more 10 devices at the same time smoothly while doing CPU intensive task like writing on USB hard drive.
