The Elder Scrolls 6 ● Thoughts on the combat system in TES 6.

Fans of The Elder Scrolls series do not stop for a second, so as not to put forward their desires, requirements and expectations from the upcoming 6th part of The Elder Scrolls. And on popular Western Internet resources, which I probably will not name, there are constant debates on various topics around the game.

Some want this, others want this, and most often groups of fans cannot agree on what they really want ... So for example, fans of games in the genre of survival, drown for the fact that in the 6th part there were all vital signs, such as sleep, hunger and thirst.

Lovers of games like Minecraft, advocate open systems of construction, crafting and other elements of sandbox games. Fans of Fromov games such as Dark Souls, BloodBorne and Sekiro advocate a complete redesign of the combat system, urging developers to make a truly complex combat simulator, with timings, strike calculations, counterattacks and more advanced blocks, as well as kickbacks and rolls.

If, for example, survival can be implemented as a separate game mode, and the elements of the sandbox will be even more revealed than in the same Skyrim, then there is nothing contradictory and that could somehow confuse me. The main thing is to pay attention to full-fledged quests, plot, lore, stories, and intelligible specific tasks, so that all the things inherent in sandbox games do not suppress these important elements, and that the game does not turn into a city-planning simulator in the scenery of the TES series.

But here's the combat system, it can be one, and you can't change it optionally. And here you can argue about what it should be, and what it is most likely to be in the end. To begin with, both Todd Howard and Pete Hines have said many times that their games are aimed at the mainstream, the general public, it is the policy of the company and investors.

Including all games are immediately made with a focus on multiplatform. Based on this information, we can already conclude that the combat in the TES series will never be the same as in the same Kingdom Come Deliverance, which fans also put as an example.

And all these kickbacks, rolls, timings and other wonders of console games are difficult for PC gamers to master, not to mention people who prefer VR technologies, which will undoubtedly be supported in part 6. Pete Hines spoke about this very recently, that they always look around and support the latest technologies: VR, streaming systems, as well as mobile gaming devices, citing the example of successful sales of their games on the Nintendo Switch platform.

Hardcore battles, slashers and games focused exclusively on combat, I would not harbor any illusions that it would be something so akin to games from Fromov only in the scenery and entourage of the TES series. The maximum that can be counted on is more accurate hits, possibly more detailed cutting off of the limbs, as well as dividing the enemy's body into zones.

Although, again, if you make a too rough dismemberment, then the rating of the game will have to be significantly increased, putting 18+, or even all 21+. Which again is not in line with company policy. I myself am personally against the complication of the combat system, and I fully support the simplest battles in the games of this series, since after all the game is not about this, I am for the fact that it would contain as many fascinating and mesmerizing stories as possible, immersive atmosphere, mysterious places and riddles, as well as morally difficult decisions that would affect the whole story as a whole.

All I would like personally to do is tighten up the battles from a technical point of view, which I talked about recently. But all this is more related to the artificial intelligence of opponents than to the mechanics of combat itself. I would like the opponents to be just smarter or something, and to act in battle more prudently and much more varied.

Well, and that wounds would play at least some role, and not just a scale of the enemy's state. This is all that is needed in my opinion. And all these rollbacks, rolls, let's leave the games in which the default view is from the third person, and which are sharpened exclusively for the console and gamepad ..
