Pathfinder Battles Premium Figures (Wave 1) Review - WizKids Prepainted Minis.

This video is brought to you by The Deck of Many and their Heckna 5e campaign setting book, on Kickstarter now! Hello and welcome back to the Gallant Goblin! Today I’m excited to show you the first wave of premium painted minis from WizKids for Pathfinder! Many thanks to WizKids for sending us these along to share with you.

The Pathfinder hero minis are generally perfectly usable in any fantasy-based tabletop RPG, but Pathfinder certainly has its own style, playable ancestries , and playable classes. Our first round of minis here are pretty universal though, focusing on popular archetypes.

We have six here in Wave One, and each one has an MSRP of $7.99 . And they’re all in stores now. Also, I quite like their new packaging for these. For one, they’ve moved the name of the piece up so it’s not obscured by the plastic, which makes it much easier to read.

They have a bit of flavor text on the back of each box talking about the class of each mini, so the text for the two rogue minis, for example, is identical and it’s also nice just to see that Pathfinder red! So, anyway, let’s open these up and take a closer look! Just like the D&D premium figures, these are painted versions of existing sculpts.

Our human male cleric here, like all these figures, is available in a set under the Pathfinder Deep Cuts line. In those sets you’ll receive two unpainted sculpts of the same figure, one designed to look like a lower level version of the character, and one at a higher level.

Each set of two has an MSRP of $4.99 . Also like the D&D premium minis, these come with separate bases that you can glue the minis on to if you like. They also come with a bit of terrain under their feet unlike the minis in their booster box system. The paint qualities on these premium figures is the best offered by WizKids at the current time and they remind me of some of the iconic hero mini collections that they offer.

You can see our review of their first set of 2e iconic minis by clicking the little "i". The archetypal half-elf male ranger should certainly see some regular use at your table. Our only non-elf, non-human in this initial set is the half-orc male barbarian here, wielding an axe in one hand and a mace in the other.

His face is nicely detailed to the point where you can really see his orc-ish tusks. You can certainly also use nice minis like these to represent important NPCs in your adventures. If your party is going after an orc warlord, this fearsome and detailed mini would work great for that purpose as well.

This is a quite versatile elven mini that could be used for a wide variety of martial classes. He’s armed with a sword and has a corresponding scabbard at his side, walking forward in a very dynamic pose with his cape billowing in the wind. His skin is slightly more pink in color than the other minis in this set.

He has that jet white hair though that’s become quite well-associated with elves. His face is very nicely detailed as well. We’ll finish up with our two rogues. Another classic pose for our human female rogue, protecting herself while ready to strike with twin daggers.

Her face is covered with a hood and cloak. There’s really not much, if anything, distinguishing the sex or gender of this mini, so it could easily be universally usable. Just a very well-done rogue mini. Here is another class rogue pose, kind of the rogue version of the superhero three point landing pose.

This figure also sports a hood and dagger. I’m curious to hear what you all think about having a mini in a kneeling pose, as that really isn’t very common, though we did get a lot of kneeling nymphs in the last Icons of the Realms set for Mythic Odysseys of Theros.

Here’s our starting lineup of Pathfinder premium minis! I’m really eager to see where they take the series from here. There’s some pretty amazing unpainted Deep Cuts minis that they can choose from to come over to the painted line. As we continue to review unpainted minis here at the Gallant Goblin, I’ll start asking you to comment on which ones you’d like to see make that jump over to this premium painted series.

I’m hoping their next set focuses on a few more caster classes, but it’s certainly good to have your basic elf ranger, human fighter, human rogue bases covered. If you’re currently playing in a Pathfinder campaign, I’d love to hear about your character in the comments section down below! Again, these figures are available in stores now for an MSRP of $7.99 .

Let me know what you think about them! Many thanks to our sponsor for this video, The Deck of Many. Their Kickstarter campaign for their new campaign setting book Heckna is going on right now. We talked a lot about their last campaign setting book, Humblewood, over the course of the last year, and I’m currently about halfway through my own Humblewood campaign and having a blast.

The Deck of Many really goes all out on story, lore, and art in their products, plus they support their books with lots of amazing and beautiful and helpful accessories. The Heckna campaign setting takes place in a fantastical carnival known as the Revelia, overseen by the ringleader, Heckna! Go check out what they’ve put together today at Heckna.com.
