Fortnite banned for one year by Apple! Resounding own goal ?.

The Fortnite ban on iOS will last for at least a year. This is the latest update relating to the war between Epic Games and Apple, with neither of the two contenders seeming willing to give up soon. In fact, the latest court records show that Apple has no plans to rehabilitate the Epic Games developer account on the App Store anytime soon, meaning players will not be able to access updates or new content, including the Marvel superhero season 4 currently in course in Fortnite chapter 2.

Those wishing to download the game for the first time, however, will have to opt directly for an Android smartphone, a PC or one of the consoles currently on the market. The legal clash between Apple and Epic Games has been going on for a month. It all started on Thursday 13 August 2020, when the developers of Epic Games introduced a new payment system, exclusively in the versions of Fortnite for Android smartphones and iOS devices.

This new payment method allows you to avoid the 30% taxation by Google and Apple, because with every purchase the players pay their money directly to Epic, bypassing a system that has consolidated over the years and has always been anchored to the digital stores of the devices. The move was not liked by the Cupertino house, which removed the game from AppStore developer account banned.

The request was obviously that Epic accept 30% tax, like all the other developers. For its part, however, the Fortnite house has started a media campaign, complete with a remake of an iconic 1984 Apple commercial, and started a close legal battle; to which Apple responded by suing Epic in turn, a fight that threatened to involve even other developers, since Apple also wanted to cut support for Unreal Engine.

Fortunately, however, he was prevented by a court. Of these, 37% only used iOS on the go, but also had another platform to access Fortnite. This, however, means that as many as 63% had iPhones and iPads as their only gaming platform and that therefore, due to the Apple ban, they can no longer access.

For this reason Epic Games would have asked the judge who is following the affair to bring forward the hearing scheduled for 28 September. In fact, there is talk of lost revenue of about a billion dollars in total. In short, we are facing a clash between two real giants ..
