EA Wants to 'Double Down' on Making Star Wars Games - IGN Now.

EA will be the source of your Star Wars video games for the foreseeable future. EA's CEO Andrew Wilson says he wants to double down on the developer's creative partnership with Disney to make Star Wars games. The company held a fireside chat webinar with investors this week.

During the talk, Wilson alluded to the financial success of modern Star Wars Battlefront series, Respawn's Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order, and the mobile game, Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes, as part of his reasoning for further commitment to the license.

He said, quote, Wilson sees strong opportunities in the future of the partnership as new fans connect with the Star Wars franchise. He explained, quote, EA has a long history with the Star Wars license going back to Bioware's Star Wars: The Old Republic in 2011.

In 2013, EA announced his deal with Disney to be the exclusive creator of Star Wars games. Since then, it has produced two Battlefront games, and Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order, not counting mobile games. Some might say this seven year output has been a little light for the exclusive rights to one of entertainment's most popular properties.

EA Star Wars games currently in the pipeline include the recently revealed Star Wars: Squadrons—a starfighter similar engaged in space battles and a variety of iconic Star Wars spaceships. It is being developed by EA Motive and will be available on VR platforms, PC, PS4 and Xbox One on October 2nd this year.

And that's it. EA has no other announced Star Wars games at this time. So we'll have to see what doubling down means for EA in this case—does it mean we'll get eight games over the next seven years instead of four? Always in motion the future is. For your video game news.
