SHADOW.TECH REVIEW [2020] Is cloud gaming any good?.

Is the shadow tech service worth it? No paid promotion, no sponsorship, no affiliate links, no bullshit. I'm in the middle of a move so excuse me this studio here isn't exactly attractive anyway if you're new here. to get the most out of our computers around here so if that's something you like, click the subscribe button and the little bell there so you don't miss a thing, we also have a Discord server that's practically dead and really We could use your help getting it up and running, the link is in the description if that's something you think might help, for those of you who don't know that shadow is marketed as a cloud gaming platform, but what what it really is is a powerful Windows 10 virtual machine that is hosted in the cloud its not like Stadia or G-Force now where you have a pre-defined library of games to choose from its a full windows desktop so first things first First, let's talk about pricing and plans starting on the right.

Now there are th ree plans that are available or at least they will be eventually, the first one will be boost, which is what I am subscribed to and that will give you four Xeon cores, 12 gigs of ram and the equivalent of a gtx 1080 for 14 dollars per month.

And in the summer of 2020 you can climb that up to the infinite package that will cost you $ 50 a month, that being said, if you sign up for Boost right now, you'll still have to wait until almost the end of July to actually use your machine's availability has been a problem since I started using the service almost a year ago and when I enrolled my son as a Christmas present there was no mention of a wait like now but it wasn't until the end of January when it was activated so we had to wait almost a whole month to use it which was a bummer so it's nice to see there's more upfront with timeouts now, so after your machine is up, interacting with it is pretty straightforward once you turn it on.

Get your machine desktop and install and play games the same way you would on a normal PC, this means it literally supports any game that is compatible with Windows 10 and this is what I use it mainly because it is compatible with any software that runs on Windows 10 I almost exclusively edit my videos on my Shadow PC Premiere and the side effects run incredibly smooth and greatly increase my productivity.

Nice to have the media encoder rendering my video, which is incredibly intensive on the CPU and I can minimize the shadows and let it run the background without it dragging anything else I want to do in the computer to stop them, the games also look great I have rarely seen some kind of artifact that I would consider harmful on occasion it has been noticed but it has been nothing more than a small inconvenience that is fixed quickly and it is usually my fault because I am downloading something in the background and consuming a bandwidth or my wife is watching Netflix or my son is downstairs playing on his shadow machine I tried to record a demo for you guys but YouTube will totally screw it up anyway so I won't even show it because YouTube compression would make the whole demo moot.

The setup is pretty straightforward and the defaults will probably work for 99% of people if you're going to use any USB peripherals, you just have to install the USB driver, which was completely straightforward, just click the install drivers button and once the lled drivers are installed, you can mark the devices you want to forward to your shadow machine while it is running shadow also has built-in driver support, which is pretty impressive I haven't tested it thoroughly, I don't really use a driver when I play but I plugged in my PlayStation controller and it autodetected and it will autodetect whichever controllers you have attached and pass it through your shadow PC automatically, plus they have support for spoofing your PlayStation controller which I thought what was it pretty good.

Usually I have to use a third-party tool, but with the shade I didn't have to as far as the network connection, there's really nothing I can complain about for a solid gigabit connection and a hundred megs of upload. I really don't know what else you might need, you can see here.

I install this game which is less than a gigabit in size in a few seconds so storage was one of my biggest complaints about using shadow in the past, some games like Modern Warfare a huge 180 gig download but it They've tackled and added the option to increase your storage for a fee that took me a while to get because availability is limited but I finally did and it's a fair price of just $ 2.99 for an extra 250 gigs of space in my opinion.

Main concern has always been input lag and has been an issue at times, this is directly related to its latency at the However, I have a shadow data center and there are many things that influence it I have a hundred megabit connection per second at my house.

I am relatively close to the Chicago data center and my computer is wired, but I have noticed that if both me and my son are running shadow at the same time and others on the c while streaming video my latency has a tendency to naturally increase even in the worst of cases, although the input lag is minimal, it's probably noticeable for super competitive gamers or for games that require super fast reaction times, but for me, cutting a video project or something like that has never been a problem.

Honestly, I had a hard time thinking cons to add to this video some things that I would like to see in the future, maybe it would be support for multiple monitors, an implementation like TeamViewer where you have multiple windows that you can drag to your monitors.

It would be pretty cool but I can see how it wouldn't be a priority as this is primarily aimed at running a game in full screen and I wouldn't need multiple monitors for that, the only other big issue I've had has been availability and I really don't think that there's nothing no one can do so they can just grow as fast as they can grow and at least they're being sincere and honest before you sign up now, which I think is fantastic, so overall the games look great, they run smoothly, there used to be somewhat frequent outages, but that has been resolved and is no longer a problem.
