Baldur's Gate 3 News

In the latest Baldur’s Gate 3 News, Cinematic Director, Jason Latino would reveal that during multiplayer games, if your character walks into a dialogue situation, the cinematic dialogue will begin. If one of your friends then comes within the vicinity of the conversation, they will have the option or whether or not to join the discussion.

Once joined, they can indicate which options they would like you to select. Party members are free to act independently during conversations, so for example, they could try and pick-pocket the person in question. That said, the game will react to such actions.

An important aspect of the cinematics in the game will be to tell the story from your own perspective. So, for example, you should see notable differences between a gnome and an elf. As mentioned in the previous news video, Larian are currently asking the community for questions, some of which they answered.

There will be many features associated with different difficulty levels, however, EA will not be launching with those options. Alignment will not have any impact on the game. Similar to D&D 5E, there will not be a strict alignment system. Simply, your actions and decisions will impact upon how the world and people will react around you.

You are free to be as good or evil as you want. Just like DOS2, modding will be supported for BG3, but not for EA. Larian Studios were asked about their ability to make entire campaigns, given that the game engine is now in place. At this moment in time, they would comment that their pipelines are very much up and running, and they are seeing the fruits of their labour.

However, it takes a long time to make such a comprehensive game with so many permutations. Ultrawide will be supported, and it is already being taken into account with the production of the cinematic dialogs. The time of the release globally will be 10 am PST, on September 30th, which I believe is 6 pm in the UK.

On the question of whether characters can be carried over from EA into the full game, Larian Studios explained that due to changes, bug fixes, and patches, inevitably wipes will happen to saves, as there will be fundamental changes to the engine, story etc which will create incompatibility issues.

The final key art for the game has been released showing improvements from the previous versions. Wyll, the Human Warlock, has made a pact with the devil, and is desperate to escape the hellish bargain, even if that means rescuing the seductive creature that made the deal.

It appears the art now reflects that. Several new gameplay scenes were revealed, including a new character, however aside from having elf-like features, information on her currently remains elusive. An update to the UI was also shown as the party was fighting a level 3 Owlbear.

Owlbears are known for their ferocity, aggression and stubbornness, making them fearsome predators. Within the lore it was hinted that with enough time, food, and luck, an intelligent creature can train an owlbear to recognize it as a master. The origin of the owlbear is heavily debated.

A common theory is that a demented wizard created the first specimen by crossing a giant owl with a bear. However, venerable elves claim that these creatures have always existed in the Feywild. The next community update will be dealing with romances in Baldur’s Gate 3.
