PS5: watch out for the sticker on PS4 games!

A new sticker is coming on the covers of new PS4 games. It is a small blue rectangle positioned near the PEGI indication, useful for identifying those games that will have the free upgrade to PlayStation 5. The novelty has been made known through the official box art of Immortals: Fenyx Rising, the new open -world Ubisoft formerly known as Gods & Monsters, out on December 3, 2020.

As you can see, this is a small and not too intrusive graphic, with the words "PS5 Upgrade Available". Of course, each game will make its own story: EA Sports games, for example, give precise timing to be able to redeem the next-gen version, so it's always worth inquiring before taking for granted the possibility of getting both versions with just one.

Purchase. As for Ubisoft, however, this should apply to all cross-gen games, be it PlayStation or Xbox, but it will not be possible to obtain the physical version of a title purchased digitally, of course, nor will it be possible to play the digital version.

Without owning the physical version. An important detail especially if you plan to buy a console without an optical drive. At the moment we do not know if Xbox will also insert a similar sticker: for now the only new element announced by Microsoft is in fact the one dedicated to games optimized for Xbox Series X.

What is certain is that, in addition to Ubisoft and EA Sports, the titles of some big publishers, such as DOOM Eternal and Cyberpunk 2077, will offer free updates to the new versions, Xbox Game Studios have also been confirmed for Microsoft exclusives, while they have not yet been announced the conditions for PS5 updates of games produced by PlayStation Studios.
