Medium - Silent Hill Has a Friend

Hi, my name is ColdBeer and this time let’s talk about Medium. It was one the coolest games announced at the recent Xbox event and I can’t miss talking about it. Concept is simple - you have physical world and spirit world, and you have to interact in both of those.

Here you will use your psychic abilities to solve puzzles spanning both worlds, uncover deeply disturbing secrets, and survive encounters with The Maw - a monster born from an unspeakable tragedy. Sounds grim and a bit scary. Also the whole concept reminds me of a Silent Hill, although in there you weren't in control of world switching.

In a matter of fact no sane person would ever go to that another world of Silent Hill's. But here you’ll have to solve a great mystery and the only way to do that is to explore both worlds at the same time. And by saying at the same time - I mean it.

That was never done before, at least according to the creators of this game, although I can’t shake the feeling that I saw this somewhere. Maybe in some indie platformer game? I can’t remember. Tell me in the comments if you know something. So here you have to explore the physical world and the spirit world simultaneously, and use the interactions between them to solve dual-reality puzzles, unlock new paths, and awaken memories of past events.

Spirit world is a dark mirror reflection of our reality, a grim and unsettling place where our unpunished deeds, evil urges, and vile secrets manifest themselves and can take on a form. That doesn't mean, if you are alcoholic, in example, that you will be hunted by a giant predatory bottle of vodka, it is not that simple.

This world has been invented and designed under the inspiration of Zdzisław Beksiński’s paintings, Polish dystopian surrealist with a sad life story. Let me show you a few of his works. He obviously wasn't a fan of airy fairy gay unicorn rainbows, but rather he saw grim mirror of our reality and reflected his imagination on his disturbing, but very cool paintings.

And let me go back to the Silent Hill for a moment. One of the music composers of Medium previously had worked on Silent Hill, so the resemblance of the amazing Silent Hill’s atmosphere will be strengthened by authentic music. Medium will be released in the very end of this year on Steam and Xbox Series X console.
