Ghostwire Tokyo ● Slenderman and Japanese ghosts.

So we have waited for the coveted gameplay trailer for Ghostwire Tokyo. Those who have been following my channel for a long time and subscribed to the blog on Telegram know very well that I have been waiting for this game the most this year, because for objective reasons it makes no sense to expect Starfield in 2020.

Therefore, I closely followed the news around this curious project from a Japanese studio run by Bethesda Softworks. And finally, we were shown not only the gameplay of this game, but also announced the release year, namely 2021. I will not torment for a long time, but I will share my impressions of what I saw and try to understand a little about what was shown.

The first thing that came to mind when watching the trailer was the fact that Ghostwire Tokyo is more like a game sharpened under a virtual reality helmet. On the other hand, the gameplay trailer is simply overloaded with action to the eyeballs, and at some point you get the feeling that you are watching another Asian slasher, only from a first-person view.

Then a great phrase comes up: "your expectations are your problems." That is why my opinion is just my opinion and it cannot in any way affect the quality of the final product. This is not the whole game, and therefore I am based solely on what I saw.

But after watching the first presentation of the game at E3, I expected that the game will be darker, there will be more plot, dialogue, investigations, that we will wander around the city in search of clues, sometimes encounter some kind of creatures, it is possible to read clippings from news newspapers.

Collect evidence. But all I saw in the gameplay show was a magic slasher. On the one hand, this is not bad, because there are a lot of fans of such entertainment. Here it is more annoying to take precisely from the contrast of the comparison of the first cinematic trailer and the second one - the gameplay.

The first trailer shows stunning graphics, really worthy of Next-Gen consoles, everything is worked out to the smallest detail. High detail environment, lighting, shadows, picture, everything looked like a real shot. But in the gameplay trailer, rather mediocre outdated graphics are shown, plus not a single cut-scene is shown, peaceful characters with whom one could conduct dialogues, solving some problems, a collection of evidence, and instead, we were shown how we take out various opponents, one by others with the help of magical abilities.

Only once they showed the bow, and as I understand it, it will be a secondary weapon, which can be used not as often as I personally would like. Some of the opponents, by the way, have already appeared on the Sony Playstation blog. All the enemies are famous characters from urban legends and Japanese mythology.

Immediately I apologize for the stress and pronunciation, if this will cut off someone's ears. Amevarasi: This spirit appears as a small child in a yellow cloak. He draws strength from the sad emotions of separation from his parents, and this spirit will call for help and call upon other spirits when it feels threatened.

Shiromuku Spirit - Named after the traditional pure white wedding dress. The spirit looks like an ordinary bride, but in fact she is a physical manifestation of emotions caused by regret and strong feelings for a partner whom she was never able to marry.

Kuchisake is the representative of the famous Japanese urban legend about a girl with a disfigured mouth. This is a strong and agile opponent, capable of quickly covering distances to reach the victim and inflict damage with the blades of huge scissors.

This is a fairly modern urban legend, from which we can conclude that the game will have a mix of all possible legends, and not just classic Japanese mythology. That is why tall thin men in ties look very much like Slender Man, perhaps this urban legend was also inspired by the developers , and maybe these opponents are a direct reference to them.

At the heart of the disappearances of the population, the appearance of Visitors on the streets, and even the protagonist's own supernatural abilities, there is a dark masked group "Hannya". Who they are, what they want and how they will interact with you remains a mystery, and the player himself has to determine their motives and reveal their secret.

In appearance they look like some kind of group of hackers, plus everything during the entire demonstration is constantly referred to some kind of virtual reality, pieces of code written in hieroglyphs, something that looks like a matrix and there is a high probability that this group has just made some kind of hacking of our reality, and we, as the chosen Neo, with our super-abilities will have to resist them.

Spirits are creatures from famous myths and legends caused by the program code. even after death, they crumble into digital elements and pixels, and not into dead bodies lying in pools of their own blood or dissolving in the air, which is characteristic of typical ghosts and spirits.

That is, it is obvious that we will not deal with real beings, but digital projections of all kinds of spirits and monsters. And whether it is true that the entire main gameplay will be tied to continuous combat and spell combination is not yet clear.

All that I saw in the trailer is different ways of fighting with all kinds of spirits. Perhaps we will be shown another gameplay video in the future, which will tell in more detail about other game mechanics and gameplay elements. But so far, everything looks like a kind of hodgepodge between Watch Dogs, Yakuza and almost any Japanese slasher.

At first I was really looking forward to this game, as I thought it would be something like The Evil Within. Whatever cool atmospheric adventure horror game with elements of a detective story, plus also with realistic graphics. Of course, after a year, the game is more likely to be released on everything that is possible, but the games will be released by that time much more expected by me and I probably won't even notice porting this game to other platforms.

Not to say that they showed a bad game, perhaps the game will be quite worthy of an exclusive of this console, and will appeal to fans of this genre, in which the key element is first-person battles, as in the Shadow Warrior, another conversation that the expectations from this project were slightly different and at first it seemed that the game would be direct and spiritual heir to Resident Evil and The Evil Within ..
