Cyberpunk 2077 Lore Corporate Life Path

Few leave the corporate world with their lives, fewer still with their souls intact. You’ve been there, you’ve bent the rules, exploited secrets, and weaponized information. There’s no such thing as a fair game, only winners and losers. V begins her corporate lifepath working for Arasaka, counter-intelligence.

While it certainly has many perks, its highly stressful, and she throws up in the executive bathroom. A stock ticker continually goes on in her lower-right field of vision, until she is suddenly interrupted by a call from an old choomba, Jackie Welles.

Jackie is one of the few people she trusts in Night City, despite operating in different social circles. However, V is in a hurry. Her boss, Mr. Jenkins, wants to see her. Mr Jenkins is cold and calculating. While V enters his office, she finds him watching a vote in the European Space Council.

She has seen this look before. Jenkins is about to make a power move. On the monitor, people start screaming, while clutching their heads. Death is almost instantaneous. However, Jenkins went rogue on this one. A call from his superior, Abernathy, comes in moments after.

She is severely annoyed. Jenkins shrugs off the animosity without second thought. Abernathy has been a long-term rival, and he has been planning to supplant them. He hands V a data shard. It contains everything. Abernathy’s accounts, trauma team details, her lover and so much more.

He instructs V to eliminate her. V is not in a position to refuse. She takes Jenkin’s personal AV to Lizzie’s bar. Some annoying Street Rats playing basketball seem to have forgotten their place in the Night City food chain. They are swiftly dealt with.

Her friend Jackie is waiting for her, but inevitably they both conclude this is not something they can pull off. Then Arasaka mercenaries show up. With one word, V’s cyberware is shut down. Her accounts are emptied. Everything is gone. She begins to feel nauseous and light headed as her biological systems feel the impact.

Is this how it all ends? Despite being outnumbered, Jackie quickly comes to the defence of his friend. The Arasaka goons know this is not their turf, and they may well all be leaving in body bags should it come to a fire fight. Figuring V is dead anyway, they leave.

V owes Jackie big time. As for V’s upbringing, in Night City, hesitation is death; delegation and accountability are the rule of the day. Corporate Students are taught most facets of the business, but proprietary information is withheld. At age fifteen, the student is given a final examination.

This examination will determine where the student will begin their career within the Corporation. Having worked their way through the "hard times," those corporate parents that have the Eddies, raise their children at home, with the help of au pairs, servants, and a new group of exclusive care centres utilizing European methods.

A child growing up in this environment will have a strong sense of elitism, matched only by the most exclusive of their peers. This is fostered by Upper Management in order to refine and strengthen the inherent class structure of the Corporation. Among the parents, there is a constant current of vicarious competition, as the triumphs of their children allow them to score social points against other corporate parents.
