Why are there a lot of game stores on PC? Why is this inconvenient? How to fix it?

Hi 👋 Let's talk about game stores on PC. You are probably already used to the fact that there are a lot of them, and that you constantly need to track prices, and then buy where it is more profitable. And although I have already begun to get used to it, it still seems to me that it is not very convenient.

There is one store on the curling iron, where all the games are collected. I just chose and bought. And on a PC, you must first go to Steam. See if there is a game there. If not, go to another store. And if it is not there, then you need to go to the publisher's personal store.

This is horror, especially since games are almost always more expensive from publishers. I also don’t like that even if you buy the game on incentive, some publishers ask you to additionally install your store so that the game starts. This is generally a discovery for me.

For example, I bought Assassin in Steam or GTA 5 in EGS. At the first start, I need to install their launcher with a store. This takes extra time. Then you need to register in this store and only then can I turn on the game. Well, this is the first time, next time you can run from a shortcut.

But if you do not like creating a bunch of shortcuts and launch games from your store's library, then this is again not convenient. First you launch the store, then the game, then the publisher's store is automatically launched and after that the game starts.

It looks something like you came to the store for groceries, chose everything for yourself, and then you yourself need to go to the suppliers' warehouses to pick everything up. Well, it's stupid. Well, I'm not even talking about the fact that you won't keep all these stores running all the time.

Because they eat up system resources. In this regard, I really like how everything looks on consoles. There is no need to steam. In my opinion, major stores should prohibit this behavior, and first of all should be done conveniently for their users. And already with a bunch of stores, they somehow figure it out.

Because now they work so-so. Well, you need to allow games to run without launching a store. I don't want to overload the system. Just give it the opportunity! No, well, okay. If this is Steam, with its chats, and all the cool chips for cooperative play, I agree that it should be launched.

But I don't want to launch something additional for the sake of "Checking" the user. I am honest and I buy games. And those who pirate won't even install your store. Why did I say that those launchers that are not very good now? They just do not know how to properly pull up games from all stores, and generally cannot pull up games that I install using the Game Pass or buy in the Windows store.

I understand that these games are installed on PC the way UWP apps are installed and it is difficult to pull information about the game. But if you take on the development of such an application, then you need to do it right, and I understand that this is not the fault of the launcher developers, but the store developers and game developers.

But this is all because nothing is standardized on a PC and everyone can do as he wants. In short, now for me the most convenient launcher, which also does not eat unnecessary resources, is the start menu with tiles. I placed them as you like, those that from Macrosoft store or Game Pass made more, those from ordinary stores are smaller.

And great! Or another cool option, you can buy the Decent Ikons app. It is not expensive and doesn’t consume much of your PC's resources, but you can customize a really cool and original launcher in it. Yes, for this you need to get confused, pick up pictures and spend more than one hour of time.

But in the end you get the coolest and most convenient launcher for games. And the coolest it is because you yourself do it exactly as it suits you. If anything, I will leave a link to the application. It's very cheap, so don't pirate! But I think this is a temporary solution.

But these are only dreams and desires. In reality, no one will be happy to have games bought from their store through third-party services. In general, these are my thoughts about game stores on PC. There are many problems, it is still inconvenient to use, but there are people who are trying to solve this problem.
