Hi friends, in today's video we will review Deep Vents by Red Raven Games, the folks at Red Raven Game sent us a copy of Deep Vents to play and talk about, I really like this game, I do it, it's a fun game. It's not that long, she's got a good two-player version, but I think it's fair to say I wasn't a fan of hers the first time we played, what did you think of the first round? It definitely took until the end of the game for me to figure it out and usually with games like first turn it looks a bit like what I'm doing exactly, but when I'm on second or third turn I'm fine, I have this.

It definitely took a lot longer to learn, yeah I think that's fair enough, you know the learning curve, most games are one round for everyone, this really took us the entire first play and the two of us playing the first time was maybe like a 30 minute game.

Then we played later that night and the game was 20 minutes and much more fun, so don't put it down if you pick it up and the first time you play it with your friends or family, it's a bit tricky or hard to understand, don't throw it away the bookshelf and never play it again.

I think it's really fun after that first time, so the premise of the game is that you're building this little deep ocean ecosystem around a vent, a deep vent and you're not just trying to build your ecosystem but I'm also trying to remove the other player's ecosystem so there's a bit of pvp, but It didn't feel um, at least in our game, it didn't feel uh, I'm going to go after you to annoy you.

It was just part of good, yeah that's how the game works, I mean yeah, you can't really be as good, I'm going to try to collect all my resources, I guess you can try to do it that way, but I don't. I don't think it works that well, you know it does, you are attacking, you are using things to attack, um, resource management and there is a lot of planning, where do you put the pieces on the grid that you are doing and why did I know that? you had um you had a piece that you just realized you put in a place that became completely useless, yeah yeah you gotta love yourself.

Of planning ahead and there is that element of luck as good, am I going to have? I was hoping to have another predator and none showed up so that piece never did anything for me, yeah so it's really a neat thing, there's a row of optional pieces at the top that you can choose from, they're all like hexagons hexagons hit six sides yes yes hexagons you can build around and what resource is touching it depends on what it is that makes all these things are in the rule book and then there is a kind of pattern that you go in every time it is your turn and you choose to grow your area by adding more resources or activating it which usually does something special attack the other player, yes, attack or move the arches, the resource points that you are using in your group and that was definitely something that was not clear to me at first, how you move things to your resource rule and the differences between what's in a room and what's in the pool weren't very clear books, but as we were playing it was kind of like, oh I'm realizing this makes more sense now yeah, and it's just little things like that , this is one of those games that there are a lot of symbols, a lot of um parts of which is that you can make a lot of different options and that's not a bad thing, it just means keeping them all straight like it takes a bit, but i would say in the middle from our second rare game see z i looked in the reference book more and i could just look at the different pieces um see the different symbols and know exactly oh ok that's what that means, this is how i can place them so again it's a great game once you master it and maybe you will all learn the game more quick than us, okay that's true yeah and I really enjoyed the variety of the different creatures and all that as well as the artwork, I mean the right games, I always enjoy their artwork but it seemed fun Maybe a fun family game, especially if you are trying to teach kids about ecosystems and the depths of the ocean or have someone who loves ocean things, the theme fits in with that absolutely great game to learn.

For all the marine biologists in your life we always talk about the box design, yes this is something that is just a box, it comes with some bags, it didn't even have enough ziploc bags for all the stuff that came in because some of they were single use plastic b ags not the best box design, things are going to change and you will probably like to fix things, luckily there are not a lot of parts so sorting will be pretty quick, but only something to keep matters if the inner box design is something you look at Yes absolutely, and I'm sure you know there are a lot of places that sell those box inserts and it's beneficial if you grab an extra half bag of sandwich to toss a few of your stuff and you'll be fine, but yeah it's a box with a game inside of which I guess that's all which really needs to be yeah yeah I think for me overall deep vince uh it's worth putting it on your game shelf and it'll probably take two plays to figure it out, but okay, uh give it some room to breathe, to minus that's what i think so you've played deep vents what did you think about it? uh, you got it a lot quicker than we did, let us know your comments below in the comments section to thank you so much to our sponsors especially Sean, if you want to support our channel you can head over to our patreon page and see the advantages of being a sponsor, don't forget to like and subscribe and follow us on our social networks, that's the way.
