Eminem made a surprise appearance at the 2020 Academy Awards last night, leaving many people to ask why the heck did Eminem make a surprise appearance at the 2020 Academy Awards? Well, it turns out that Eminem's performance of Lose Yourself was a performance 17 years in the making.

So let's turn the clock back to 2003 when Eminem was nominated for an Oscar for Lose Yourself from the movie 8 Mile. Lose Yourself music by Eminem. Jeff Bass and Luis Resto. Lyrics by Eminem. Eminem ended up winning the Oscar for Best Original Song, but he wasn't there to accept the award.

And apparently when Barbra Streisand read his name aloud on TV, he was at home asleep. The Oscar goes to Eminem. Jeff Bass and Luis Resto for Lose Yourself from 8 Mile. An article from People magazine explains how during the Oscar ceremony, Eminem was watching cartoons with his daughter and had dozed off just in time to miss his big moment.

In an interview with the rapper, he expressed how a snazzy event like the Oscars just, quote, wasn't his sort of gig. So he decided to stay home and left his song co-writer Luis Resto to accept the golden statue by himself. But now Eminem has apparently had a change of heart about the Oscars.

As a montage of famous movie songs played on screen. We saw Eminem's movie character B Rabbit walking out toward a stage. And then Eminem himself arrived live and in person to perform Lose Yourself. After the performance. Eminem took to Twitter with a very self-aware tweet, quote: So it turns out song lyrics don't apply to the guy rapping.
