The Riftbreaker - If Diablo, Starcraft and Satisfactory Had a Baby.

Hello and greetings from Eastern Europe, my name is ColdBeer and this time I will talk about The Riftbreaker - recently announced base building hack and slash survival game, that took many of its aspects from games like Starcraft, They are Billions, Diablo and even Satisfactory.

To be short, this is a hybrid. Exactly. Here you play the role of captain Ashley - you are the Riftbreaker, an elite scientist commando inside a powerful Mecha-Suit. You have entered a one-way portal to Galatea 37, a distant planet at the far reaches of the Milky Way Galaxy, with the purpose of building up a base that will allow travel back to Earth and continue colonization.

Your armor suit is called "Mr. Riggs", and it can withstand the harshest environmental conditions and has a full range of equipment for base construction, resource extraction, gathering specimens and of course - combat. It is capable of traveling through rifts that connect space across vast distances.

So basically this is Jim Raynor, SCV and... I guess, sorceress in one. Here you are tasked to construct a two-way rift back to Earth, because living in a planet without cold refreshing beer is pain. That device is a very complex invention and requires enormous amounts of energy.

Simple solar collectors and a few tons of steel will not be enough. You will need to build up a complex chain of mines, refineries, power plants and research facilities to complete this epic mission. Although there is one problem. Long distance surveys detected that the planet is uninhabitable and perfect for colonization, but in fact it is filled to the brim with monsters who just want to rip you apart.

And you... you like to be in one piece, you are used to your body intact, so you have to defeat the nature with all means necessary. So as you build up your industry and disrupt the natural order, the world will start seeing you as a threat. So you have to build up your defenses.

Construct walls, barriers and sentry towers as the attacks get stronger with every passing day. You will face thousands of hostile creatures trying to eliminate your presence. Most of them looks like some breed of the zerg and you know... zerg tend to swarm.

But you shall not be afraid my friend. Your armor - Mr. Riggs can be equipped with powerful weapons and abilities that will allow you to take on the largest of the beasts. Fallen creatures will drop valuable research specimens as well as rare resources.

I can’t imagine what they can drop except intestines, glands and some long ass reproduction organs. Although we are used to this nonsense in other games, like when you kill a wolf and you get an armor or knife. Like, really? The same is here, I guess.

Anyway, in The Riftbreaker you have to use everything that you can gather to research and craft new technologies, buildings, weapons, and equipment. Sadly no vodka distillation device will be available, but hey, mister developer, if you’re watching this, it’s not too late, right? Think about that.

Your armor is fully customizable and upgradeable. Use the blueprints that you've researched to craft new parts and weapons. Utilizing better materials for the crafting process results in developing gear with improved properties. Here you can shoot, throw bombs, fire lasers, hack and slash in melee or even slow time.

Environment is semi-destructible, you can cut down trees, minerals and other strange flora things. Show the nature who’s the boss. I’m the boss here. Yeah, that’s right, that’s the spirit. In game you will also control several locations. In example, main base and few resource gathering facitilies, and you have to defend them all.

Because you have some kind of teleportation facility building, you can easily teleport yourself from one base location to another and do a necessary work. Which often involves some killing of local fauna. Game also has day and night cycle, and that helps with the immersion of the distant planet.

One thing that is very very annoying is the sound of your mechanical armor. Listen to that. It is present every time you move, so it can drive you mad in minutes. Although this is pre-alpha version we are talking about, nothing is final, so I hope that developers will change that sound into something more likeable.

Like moaning of some porn star. That would be weird, but hey, let’s keep open minds ok? Thank you for watching! Now is the perfect time for you to press that like button or even subscribe. Keep in mind that more news, free games and funny memes you can find in my facebook page.
